LanzaTech works with energy-intensive industries to capture waste carbon, which would otherwise be destined for the atmosphere or landfills, and transforms that carbon into new high value raw materials.

Our process works like a brewery, only instead of yeast consuming sugar to make alcohol, our proprietary microbes consume carbon emissions and make ethanol and other building blocks, which can be turned into fuels and everyday consumer goods. This process allows LanzaTech and our partners to create value from waste.

As part of our project development process, LanzaTech provides mobile gas testing services. The LanzaTech Gas Testing Station (GTS) evaluates the compatibility of the gas streams from various industrial processes with our gas fermentation process.

Commercial Projects

Porsgrunn

LanzaTech is developing a first-of-a-kind integrated Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Sequestration (CCUS) facility in Porsgrunn, Norway. 

The project represents an important step toward creating a circular carbon economy while bringing new green jobs to the Porsgrunn community.

Key Features

  • First commercial carbon recycling facility of its kind in Norway
  • Will produce 24 kilotons of sustainable ethanol annually
  • Partnership with Eramet Norway, using furnace gas from their manganese alloys smelter
  • Potential future integration of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology
  • Creation of new jobs in the Grenland region
