Our material world is made of carbon, but it doesn’t need to come from virgin fossil carbon. We work with suppliers and brands to incorporate recycled carbon into new everyday products. We call this CarbonSmart.

APPAREL
We work with apparel partners to incorporate textiles such as CarbonSmart™ polyester, made from recycled carbon emissions from the LanzaTech process, into their products.
For example, we’ve worked with Zara on multiple collections of party dresses; On, H&M Move, adidas, lululemon, Kathmandu, and REI on athletic apparel collections; Craghoppers on IPSO award-winning fleeces; and On and REI on running shoes and Adidas on tennis shoes.
FRAGRANCE & PERSONAL CARE
We work with fragrance, beauty, and personal care brands to incorporate key ingredients such as high purity CarbonSmart™ ethanol, made from recycled carbon emissions from the LanzaTech process, into their products.
We’ve worked with Coty to replace the alcohol in a number of fragrances, including all the alcohol found in Gucci’s Where My Heart Beats and Infiniment Coty Paris’s entire fragrance collection.
PROTEIN
Protein is a co-product of ethanol production in LanzaTech’s commercial carbon recycling process. Since 2018, we have been selling certified protein as animal feed.
We have also developed a dedicated protein product made from CO2 to meet global demand for nutritious, reliable, and climate-friendly food. Our process uses minimal water and land compared to traditional meat and plant protein options, and the product itself is a high-protein powder neutral in color that ideal for formulation in animal feed, pet food, and human nutritional products. We’re trialing and prototyping products with this protein with some of the world’s leading brands and organizations. Learn more here.
SUSTAINABLE AVIATION FUEL
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is recognized as the best option for lowering the carbon footprint of the aviation industry, which currently accounts for 2% of global emissions. In 2020, we spun out LanzaJet to commercialize the Alcohol-to-Jet process developed in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy and Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
CirculAir™ is an integrated waste-to-SAF commercial technology offering from LanzaTech and LanzaJet. CirculAir can intake a wide array of localized waste-based feedstocks to produce drop-in SAF.
PACKAGING
The world produces 141 million metric tons of plastic packaging per year–the majority of which comes from virgin fossil carbon. We have teamed up with some of the world’s largest packaging producers and users, such as Plastipak, Danone, Pepsi, and Mibelle, to produce lower carbon packaging. Unlike recycled PET (rPET), CarbonSmart PET packaging is both food-safe and pharmaceutical-grade, so it can be used in applications where packaging is required to keep us safe and healthy.
We have also teamed up with L’Oreal and Total to produce the world’s first sustainable polyethylene packaging made from recycled carbon emissions, and we are working with IKEA on reusable polypropylene food containers.
